NetHui 2019 has ended
Welcome to NetHui - New Zealand’s favourite Internet gathering! We are looking forward to seeing you on 3-4 October, as we have so many things to discuss!

Please note that the NetHui registration doesn’t cover Partners Day on 2 October, which is a day full of events, forums, workshops, and round tables hosted by partner organisations. You are welcome to attend these events, you just need to register for each separately, using the registration link. You do not need a NetHui ticket to attend Partners Day events.

Digital Colonisation: The Road to Hell is Paved with Good Intentions

Sign up or log in to save this to your schedule, view media, leave feedback and see who's attending!

Time and time again we face people on the Internet and in technology with good intentions. We are also continously told that the principles on which the Internet was created are amazing. However, this is colonising our people. These principles versus Te Ao Māori principles are very different. As tangata tiriti, people afforded the right to be in New Zealand as part of Te Tiriti o Waitangi, pākehā have an obligation to not only understand, but also to honour these principles. This is not a 101 session - it is a deep dive conversation into the effects of colonisation in the digital world.
